Description
Despite its appearance, The Thneed is a no-nonsense take on the legendary transparent overdrive pedal (that shares its name with a mythical creature) but does away with frivolities like a troublesome charge pump and multiple op amp stages, and instead opts for a more reliable design that provides the same signature sound and tone of its influence.
The Thneed also adds benefits and options like four pairs of selectable clipping diodes for a wide range of drive sounds, a face-forward bass toggle (unless), internally selectable gain modes, and both True Bypass and Buffered Bypass options, to provide sound options and alternatives that can satisfy even the most finicky of guitar chain connoisseurs.

Two words describe the Thneed: Definition and Clarity. This isn’t an overdrive to make things warm and fuzzy, instead the Thneed brings a bell-like clarity to my guitar. With it on, I can really nail that 60’s jangle of The Byrds or early Beatles. When I add a little chorus, I’m shot forward twenty years and I’m trying out for The Smiths or The Cure. The Thneed also is great to pair with my distortion pedal when I want to switch from rhythm to lead and give a bit more punch.
As with all SuperCool pedals, the thing looks gorgeous. You can tell so much though was given to the aesthetics of this thing. The diagonal knobs, the offset switches, the Dr Seuss inspired graphics all make this a very eye-catching pedal. Also, I love how this pedal really sticks it to its inspiration. Instead of a gooped circuit, you have every mod you could want to make to The Thneed built right into it. Want to change the clipping diodes? Check. No diodes at all? Check. Switch from high to low gain? Check. Go from buffered to true bypass? Check. You can get a whole rainbow of mythical creature inspired tones with one pedal.
The Thneed has earned its place on my board. There may be cheaper clones of this circuit, but I think this goes beyond clone and is a very original take on the design.
