Description

Creatively frustrated with the black hole of an over-saturated digital landscape of music in 2018, Jamie Muir turned off his computer and armed himself with a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder, a rescued and repaired Jaguar guitar, and a lifetime of 90’s influence and recycled ideas to record this messy and inspired album.

Channeling the likes of Sonic Youth, Radiohead,The Breeders, Stereolab, Queens of the Stone Age, and more, Supercool embraces the harsh limitations of recording onto a primitive cassette tape setup and feels sometimes like a nostalgia-fueled love letter to an era past, and other times like ideas not meant to be shared.

This truly DIY album (with cassettes being hand spooled, trimmed and duplicated in the same space it was recorded) created a through line in Jamie’s art and technical explorations that eventually led to circuit modifications (tape machines need repairing) and ultimately the creation of the first Supercool Pedals.

Though this record is available on all streaming services, its true intended medium was always the Cassette Tape. Each cassette is still hand duplicated and trimmed from recycled cassettes scrounged from thrift shops and flea markets.
